Antigua rises from the Caribbean Sea in a scatter of coves and coral sands, its shoreline said to offer a beach for every day of the year. This is an island of gentle hills and turquoise shallows, where trade winds stir the palms and the pace slows to island time.
Wander the ramparts of Nelson's Dockyard, where Georgian naval stones still stand within English Harbour, and climb to Shirley Heights for a sundown view across the water, rum punch in hand. Sail the coast to Half Moon Bay, its crescent of pink-white sand facing the open Atlantic, or venture to Fort James, guarding the approach to St John's harbour. Betty's Hope keeps its old windmill turning against the sky.
Beyond the coastline, Antigua reveals its rhythm in steel pan and calypso, in salt fish and fungee shared at roadside stalls, in the colour of Carnival each summer.
