Beneath the South Downs, where the River Arun winds slow through water meadows, Arundel rises in tiers of flint and stone. This small Sussex town wears its history openly, crowned by a castle that has watched over the valley for nine centuries. There is a hush here, a sense of pages turned slowly.
Climb toward Arundel Castle, seat of the Dukes of Norfolk, where battlements and keep still hold the shape of Norman ambition. Beside it, the spires of Arundel Cathedral rise pale against the sky, home to the shrine of St Philip Howard.
