This is the original patent for a ballet slipper, granted on 7 July 1931 to Salvatore Capezio as No. 1,813,561 — a name that still means everything to dancers. The drawing renders the slipper with tender precision, tracing the soft sole, snug binding and shaped toe that carry a dancer through hours of rehearsal and the magic of the stage.
