Peter Jackson's third film, made in Wellington for a few million New Zealand dollars, and still the answer most people give when asked for the goriest film ever made. The lawnmower finale got through around three hundred litres of fake blood, pumped through the set at speed. It was released in North America as Dead Alive because the distributor thought Braindead sounded like a comedy, which it is.
