Joss Whedon wrote the script, then walked away unhappy as the studio reshaped its tone, and five years later he brought his original idea to television as the series that made Buffy a cult icon. Look closely and you'll spot Hilary Swank in her screen debut, and an uncredited Ben Affleck on the basketball court.
