Scattered across the Atlantic off the coast of Senegal, Cape Verde rises from the ocean as volcanic islands, shaped by wind, salt and centuries of longing. Ten islands of dark stone and pale sand hold within them a restless, seafaring spirit, where morna songs drift through harbour towns.
Wander the cobbled lanes of Mindelo, where painted houses climb the hillside above a bustling harbour, or climb the crater rim of Fogo, where the volcano still smoulders over vineyards grown in black ash. On Santo Antão, wind through terraced valleys threaded by footpaths cut into cliffs. Along Sal and Boa Vista, dunes give way to turquoise shallows, where loggerhead turtles return each year to nest.
Beyond its shores, Cape Verde offers a Creole warmth born of Portuguese and West African roots, felt in the grogue distilled from cane and the cachupa simmered by the sea. Music carries through every gathering, guitar and cavaquinho weaving tales of saudade beneath the stars.
