Wong Kar-wai made this quickly, almost as a break from the long edit of Ashes of Time, largely without a finished script and with Christopher Doyle shooting handheld in the crowds of Tsim Sha Tsui. Two loosely connected stories about policemen and the women who pass through their routines, one of which plays 'California Dreamin'' until it stops being a song and becomes a mood.
