This is Day of the Dead (1985), like you've never seen it before... told entirely in colour. Romero wanted the Gone with the Wind of zombie films and wrote a script to match, then accepted a budget cut from seven million dollars to three and a half rather than trim his cut down to an R rating, releasing it unrated instead. The above-ground scenes were shot in Florida and the bunker in a mine near Wampum, Pennsylvania. Tom Savini's effects crew included Greg Nicotero and Howard Berger, who went on to build careers out of it.
