Meet the original patent drawing for the fiddle, granted on 28 December 1948 as US 2,457,629 to J. R. Beckman. The sheet studies the instrument's graceful form — the curving body, the bridge, the neck and scroll — annotated in clean, careful strokes that honour the shape generations of players have held beneath their chins.

There is a lovely tension in seeing so lively and folksy an instrument set down as sober technical fact, part nostalgia and part quiet respect for the tunes it has carried across kitchens and crossroads.
