Judd Apatow and Adam Sandler shared an apartment as young comics, and the film uses the prank-call videos they actually made back then as its flashback footage. Apatow had Sandler, Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill write their own stand-up sets and perform them in front of real audiences, covered with six cameras. At 146 minutes and 75 million dollars it was his longest and most expensive film, and the first that did not make its money back.
