This is Ginger Snaps (2000), like you've never seen it before... told entirely in colour. John Fawcett had Heavenly Creatures in mind and wanted a transformation film with girls in the leads; Karen Walton wrote it, reportedly with no great affection for the genre. It was made for about 4.5 million dollars around Toronto with public money from Telefilm Canada, and Katharine Isabelle sat through makeup sessions of up to seven hours as the practical effects took over. The Canadian release barely registered, and two sequels were shot back to back in 2003.
