Rob Zombie shot his first film in twenty-five days in 2000, on the Universal backlot and around Valencia, then watched Universal shelve it over fears of an NC-17 rating. He bought the rights back, made a deal with MGM that also fell apart, and finally got it out through Lions Gate in April 2003 after cuts to secure an R. By Zombie's account the distributor recovered its money on the first day.
