This is the original patent drawing for the knitting needle, granted to Albert C. Kendig and Lloyd Spencer on 29 June 1948 as US 2,444,102. The sheet shows the slender shaft and tapered point in careful detail — the unassuming tool that, loop by patient loop, turns a ball of wool into something warm and made by hand.

There's a gentle delight in seeing so homely an object drawn with technical rigour, the craft of the fireside set down as serious invention.
