An astrophysics professor and the student he has been quietly involved with conduct their affair almost entirely through emails, texts and video messages sent across countries. Giuseppe Tornatore builds a strange, mournful romance around Jeremy Irons and Olga Kurylenko, who spends her days working as a film stunt double. Ennio Morricone's score does much of the aching, in a picture more interested in longing than answers.
