The true story of Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners, a group of London activists who spent the 1984 strike raising money for a mining community in the Dulais Valley in South Wales, and of the welcome they got when they turned up in person. Matthew Warchus, better known for directing in the theatre, keeps the comedy broad and the politics specific. It won the Queer Palm at Cannes and the BAFTA for outstanding debut by a British writer, director or producer.
