Alex Cox's gloriously scuzzy cult oddity drops a disaffected LA punk, played by Emilio Estevez, into the twilight trade of car repossession under the grizzled tutelage of Harry Dean Stanton. Part deadpan satire of Reagan-era consumerism, part sci-fi lark involving a Chevy with something unearthly in its boot, it's a jittery, quotable blast of anarchic energy — as much a punk record as a film, and every bit as beloved.
