Bill Duke's sequel leans hard on feel-good uplift, with Maggie Smith's wry Mother Superior returning and a teenage Lauryn Hill among the students. Formulaic but irresistibly warm-hearted, its rousing musical numbers have earned it a devoted afterlife beyond its lukewarm reception.
