Snowdonia rises from the north-western corner of Wales, a realm of slate-grey peaks and green valleys where the wild Celtic spirit of the land remains unbroken. Here mountains and myth are inseparable, and every ridge seems to hold an old story, waiting for you to hear it.
Climb toward the summit of Snowdon itself, known in Welsh as Yr Wyddfa, where on a clear day the view stretches to Ireland. Walk the Watkin Path or ride the mountain railway from Llanberis, and pause at the still waters of Llyn Idwal, cradled beneath the dark crags of the Glyderau. The Nantlle Ridge and the Ogwen Valley reward the patient walker, while Harlech Castle keeps watch over the coast.
Beyond its peaks, Snowdonia offers a rich Welsh heartland of slate villages and hearty fare. Betws-y-Coed makes a fine base for exploring waterfalls, and Welsh still rings through Dolgellau.
