Illumination's version was co-directed by Scott Mosier, who had spent most of his career producing Kevin Smith's films and had never made a feature of his own. Benedict Cumberbatch was approached to play the part in his own voice and argued for an American one instead, on the grounds that everyone else in Whoville was American. Danny Elfman scored it, Tyler, the Creator handled the songs, and it took more than five hundred million worldwide.
