This is the original patent drawing for a tuba, granted on 29 August 1972 as patent 3,686,995 to inventor Fred J. Marzan. The sheet unwinds those great loops of tubing and the vast upturned bell across the page, valves and bracing labelled to reveal how so much brass is folded into a single embraceable form.

There's a gentle giant's charm here: the largest, lowest voice in the orchestra set down with tidy, methodical precision, its bulk tamed into elegant line.
