This is the original patent drawing for a phonograph record — the vinyl record — granted on 17 March 1953 as patent 2,631,859 to inventor Allan R. Ellsworth. The sheet renders the disc in section and plan, the fine spiral groove and label area drawn with exacting care to show how sound itself is pressed into a wall of moulded lines.

There's a deep nostalgia here, the warm crackle of a needle dropping and the ritual of turning a record over — analogue music at its most tactile.
