Along China's southern coast, where the Pearl River unwinds into the sea, Zhuhai unfolds as a city of gardens, bridges and gentle sea breezes. Known as the "City of a Hundred Isles", it trades the frenzy of its neighbours for a quieter, greener rhythm, where the horizon dissolves into misty water and low hills.
Wander the promenade of Xiangzhou, where Fisher Girl stands at the water's edge, gazing towards Macau. Cross onto Zhuhai's chain of islands, from the beaches of Dong'ao to the cliffs of Wailingding, and follow the curve of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge as it strides over the waves. Linger in Meixi Village, where old stone courtyards and lychee groves recall a slower century.
Beyond its shoreline, Zhuhai reveals a life of night markets, egret-filled wetlands and university gardens. Taste steamed sea bass fresh from Hongqi fishing port, or sip tea in a Xiangzhou teahouse as junks drift past. As dusk falls, the lights of Yuanming New Garden flicker on.
