Here is the original patent drawing for the drum stick, granted on 8 September 1964 as US 3,147,660 to Arnold R. Brilhart. The sheet studies this everyday tool with unexpected care, charting the taper of the shaft, the balance of the bead and the profile of the tip in clean, considered lines — an engineer's answer to what makes a stick feel right in the hand.
