This is the original patent drawing for a golf ball, granted on 4 February 1908 as US 878,254 to inventor William Taylor. The sheet studies the ball in close detail, its patterned surface drawn and annotated to show the very dimpling that steadies flight and carries a good drive down the fairway.
There's a satisfying story here — the moment a humble ball became a piece of applied science, its cover mapped with the seriousness of an astronomer charting the heavens.
